Learning the Dance Steps

Don't Just Stand There...learn the steps!

The music is so compelling that it makes you want to move, no matter that you're a beginner! When I was inquiring about the best approach to learning how to dance, an experienced dancer suggested that it was important to learn the various dance steps as a first step (pun intended) prior to trying to learn the dances. Some of the steps used in Country Line (and couples dancing) are:

• kick ball change
• grapevine
• shuffle (step together step)
• rock recover
• cha cha (step right, step left, step right) (step left, step right, step left)
• toe heel cha cha cha
• pivot turns (foot that you pivot on is nailed to the floor) - go on the balls of the feet
• sashe - step to the side, step together, step to the side
• coaster step - step behind left, step together right, step forward left ( This is also known as a MAMBO step)
• sailor step - step way behind with your left foot, step right, step left (this has also been described as a drunken cha cha)
